Urban jungle in a glass: Plant June snow (Serissa foetida) yourself
This DIY terrarium brings real greenery to your windowsill—minimalist, easy to care for, and with a big impact. The delicately blooming Serissa foetida , also known as June snow, looks wonderful in a glass and, with moss, rock, and soil, becomes a small landscape work of art. Perfect for plant lovers with limited space—and a true highlight in any room.

Material:
- Glass container (diameter 24 cm, height 52 cm) with cover
- Measuring cup (or 300 ml cup)
- Spray bottle or new sponge
- small scissors
Care tipsJune snow needs fresh air every now and then to thrive in the terrarium. Therefore, open it once a week, or twice a week in summer, for an hour each time. Water only when the substrate is dry.
Components:
The June Snow (Serissa foetida) is another beautiful tree of Chinese flora. It is commonly found in the Yuelu District. It is one of the few miniature trees suitable for terrarium cultivation that flower. Its flowers are small, white, and star-shaped.
- 1 Serissa foetida (here a 5-year-old bonsai)
- 700 ml pozzolan
- 600 ml substrate mix (1 part houseplant soil, 1 part peat soil, 1 part river sand)
- 2 handfuls of fine dark gravel
- 4 handfuls of medium-sized white gravel
- 2 handfuls of fine grey gravel
- 2 granite pebbles
- 3 large cushions or slabs of forest moss
- 2 cups of mineral or filtered water (150 ml)
