Flame flower (Phlox)
Phlox is one of the most popular flowering perennials and a staple in the gardening world. It belongs to the sedge family and is particularly impressive due to its colorful variety and long bloom period. Phlox creates a sea of flowers in any type of garden and is an absolute must-have, especially in cottage gardens. Phlox also blends beautifully into the center of a colorful garden and goes well with virtually all summer perennials.

Growth form
The upright phlox has slightly woody stems and reaches a height of 40-120 cm. It has narrow, lanceolate, egg-shaped, green leaves that are approximately 15 cm long.
blossom
The flowering period of this perennial species begins in June and can extend into September when planted in combination with different varieties. Phlox forms dense, spherical flower clusters with individual blossoms up to 2.5 cm wide. The color range is extensive, ranging from white to pink, red, and reddish-violet to almost blue-violet. In many varieties, the inner eye contrasts with the flower color.
Location requirements
Phlox prefers fresh, loamy, well-drained, nutrient-rich, neutral to slightly acidic soil in a sunny to partially shaded location. Phlox lovers need 5-7 plants per square meter.
Care
It is recommended to remove the spent umbels early to extend the flowering period. (However, this should be done differently depending on the variety; please inquire when purchasing.) Complete pruning should be done in late fall or early spring. In cold regions, the plants should be protected from winter. Otherwise, phlox is perfectly content with occasional applications of compost and a small amount of complete fertilizer during the budding period.
