Growing tips:
Pumpkins don't need to be pricked out and prefer moist, humus-rich soils in sunny, sheltered locations. The plants are heavy feeders, so it's beneficial to work mature compost into the soil before planting.
Pumpkins need a lot of space to grow, and their large leaves can sometimes overshadow their neighbors. Furthermore, they are more susceptible to fungal diseases if planted too closely together. During their early growth stages, the plants should be well protected from slugs. Adequate watering is essential, as too much water, and especially waterlogging, promotes root rot. Once the harvest size is reached, watering can be stopped to increase storage life.
After harvesting in the fall, pumpkins can be stored for several months with their skin intact. They are best stored in a well-ventilated place at 12-17°C; an earth cellar is ideal for this.
