Garden pea 'Miracle of Kelvedon' - Pisum sativum
'Miracle of Kelvedon' is an early, high-yielding, and, above all, robust pea variety. It belongs to the lower-growing members of the legume family and can thrive without trellis support.
Their long, rich green pods contain approximately 8-10 dark green peas. They have a particularly sweet and aromatic flavor and are also ideal for freezing.
The garden peas require warmer soil than other pea varieties and are therefore sown directly outdoors a little later, at the beginning of April.
The right time to harvest is when the peas taste nice and sweet and crunchy. And it's best to use them immediately.
Our high-quality organic vegetable seeds are grown according to the strictest organic standards for a sustainable and healthy harvest.
Details:
Sowing outdoors: beginning of April – May
Germination time: 10-20 days at 10-20°C
Sowing depth: 3-5 cm, dark germinator
Height: approx. 50-70 cm
Planting distance: 30-45 x 3 cm
Harvest time: mid-June to end of August
Soil: Permeable, nutrient-rich soils
Fertilization: Organic fertilizer or compost
Location: Sunny
Water consumption: Medium
Growing tips:
Peas have very low soil requirements and thrive even in poor locations. However, loose, fine-crumbly, and humus-rich soil is best. Fertilization before sowing is not necessary. For the peas to swell and germinate evenly, it is important that the soil is consistently moist and regularly loosened.
After harvesting, the plant should be cut above the roots and its roots should be left in the soil, as they enrich the soil with nitrogen as they decompose.
Mixed culture:
Good neighbors: dill, fennel, cabbage, cucumbers, carrots
Bad neighbors: beans, onions
Use:
After the grains have been removed from the pods, they are processed fresh or frozen. They can also be stored in the pods in the refrigerator for a few days.
They can be prepared raw or steamed in salads and vegetable dishes. They're also a wonderful snack between meals!
