Growing tips:
Carrots prefer loose, slightly sandy soils in sunny, airy locations. To prevent pests, raw humus should be avoided. Insect nets keep carrot flies away, and the young seedlings should be protected from slugs. Growing them together with radishes is a clever trick to highlight the late-emerging carrots and prevent the carrots from becoming isolated. Purple carrots should not be sown too early, as they are generally more susceptible to bolting.
Mixed culture:
Good neighbors: dill, radishes, peas, garlic and chives
Bad neighbors: beetroot, radish, parsnip and parsley roots
Use:
Enjoy carrots in salads and soups, steamed, or baked. There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to using carrots. Their sweetness and juiciness also make them popular in sweet baked goods.
