Coriander 'Coriander' – Coriandrum sativum
'Coriander' is an annual medicinal and spice plant that is easy to cultivate in the garden or in a pot. It is low-maintenance, has a late-season shoot, and when sown in stages, it can be harvested almost year-round. It has a pleasant aroma and is a staple in Asian dishes.
Our high-quality organic herb seeds are grown according to the strictest organic standards for a sustainable and healthy harvest.
Details:
Sowing indoors/greenhouse: February
Planting outdoors: mid-May
Germination time: 12-15 days at 12-22°C
Sowing depth: 0.5 - 1 cm
Height: approx. 40 - 60 cm
Planting distance: 30 x 10 cm
Harvest time: May to September
Soil: loose, humus-rich, permeable
Fertilization: Organic fertilizer
Location: Sun, sheltered from the wind
Water consumption: high, regular
Growing tips:
'Coriander' can be grown well from seed. The soil should not dry out, but it should not be too moist either. Water well after planting, too.
After about 6 weeks, the first leaves can be harvested. Ideally, the entire shoot is cut off. Cutting the buds early delays flowering, as the leaves become bitter after flowering.
Mixed culture:
Good neighbors: lettuce, cabbage, ginger, chili
Bad neighbors: chives, garden cress, parsley, carrots
Use:
The leaves and fine stems are chopped and added to soups, salads, and meat and fish dishes. They should not be overheated, as this will cause them to lose their flavor. The root can also be chopped or ground into a mortar and pestle and used in Asian dishes.
Coriander stays fresh the longest when it is harvested with the root and then stored well chilled.
