Sweet thistle - Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter'

The perennial thistle, also known as the lesser sea holly, blooms a beautiful, vibrant silver-blue. The long, narrow, blue bracts, which frame the false flower, are striking. The blue-green stems are sturdy and make wonderful cut or dried flowers. Even in winter, the spent seed heads provide structure to the garden and provide insects with a place to overwinter.

Growing tips:
The easy-care thistle blooms in the year it is sown. After germination, the seedlings should be placed in a slightly cooler location, at approximately 14°C. As soon as the Ice Saints are over in mid-May, the seedlings can be planted in the garden. The young plants can be pinched once they reach a height of approximately 20 cm, meaning the main stem is shortened to encourage side shoots to form and the plant to become bushier.
